Founded either by Ardeshir(l) in 230 or by his grandson Hormizd(l), located on the banks of Karoun river, the city due to the construction of irrigation system and dams, prospered to a large extent and took precedence over its rival cities, Susha and Sushtar. during the 20th century and afterwards, the city turned into a major center for oil excavation and oil wells.
