The world largest Adobe-made city
Amidst the immense desert, Yazd retains its sterling quality of old in religion, traditions and architecture, recognized by UNESCO as holding the second oldest architecture all over the world, it is unique, combining a proliferation of those graceful Badgirs (wind tower) seen in central and southern Iran. Yazd is still a peaceful oasis in the midst of the turmoil world.
dating back to the time of the median Empire, the city enjoys a history of over 3000 years traditionally known as Isatis. the city has been regarded as a Zoroastrian center since Sassanid time.
visited by Marcopolo in 1272, who remarked on the city`s fine silk weaving industry, the city has been of focus for both unique architecture, fine arts, handicrafts and of course its confectionary.
The city having so far maintained its traditional structure, in the older quarters, includes houses built of Adobe having dome-shaped roofs which help preventing heat getting inside. the existence of special ventilation structures called wind catchers, Badgir is a distinctive feature of the architecture of this city.
