Yalda means birth. Birthday night of Mitra or Mehr Goddess, which Mehr in Avesta and Zoroastrianism means the sun. it is 7,000 years old. They call this night, Chelleh, because from Dec 20^th to Jan 30^th which is Sade celebration,40 days of cold weather passed and after that the weather warms up.
