The first metal discovered by man was copper, which did not require difficult steps to use. Its historical background goes back to the ancient Iran as old as 5000 years. It reached its peak in the Seljuk period and because it was easily hammered and formed, it was used for handicrafts. In fact, metal work of Iran is an art-industry and in the cities of Isfahan, Zanjan, Yazd and Qazvin, they are still in progress and even have a separate market for themselves in Grand Bazaar.

The art of decorating and carving patterns on metal objects, especially copper and silver, is called the art of Engraving. This is done by the pen and hammer blows on it, which pours bitumen and plaster on the back of the metal to prevent the screen from being punctured and to reduce the sound of the pen and hammer on the screen.

Today, beautiful handicrafts can be seen in Iranian markets, especially in Isfahan, where Engraving on trays, sugar pots, vases and other decorative objects are the most widely used.
